Pilot Interview Profile:

I just had my interview on March 7th. Reading this website helped me out a lot so I thought I should at least return the favor. The drive is long to the hotel, you stay at the Holiday Inn North. The interview itself though. It started at 8:00am and John Dresser, the Chief Pilot, talked to us and three other pilots sat
in the back of the room. There were nine of us. He talked a little bit about the company. He referred to a piece of paper they gave us when we checked
in the day before and asked if we had it. It was a fluke that I had it, but remember that paper, he wasn't happy that over half forgot it. He went over that
there are no more minimums for the company, and that paid for training has been suspended. He said Continental Express will be a major by the year
2003. He does expect you to know about the company, I heard he will even ask what the going price of the stock is. Then he explained the appl! ication
which we would have the rest of the day to fill out. We then had to take off our jackets and take an aptitude test. 12 min, 50 questions and if you get them
all right, he's sending you to NASA. After the test the Continental Express pilots left and the nine of us started on our applications. Advice, know the flight
grid before hand. I had read this site before, but could not find the application the others were talking about. So here's the grid guys.

Plane (break down into catagory like Cessna, Piper, etc) (We're talking just Single Engine right now)

Plane Gross Wt Aircraft Commander (PIC including instructor time) SIC(includes Dual received before private) Instructor Instrument Total Time
(PIC + SIC should equal total time)

Now Multi time - break the planes up into series like the Cessna 300 series etc

Plane Gross Wt Aircraft Commander SIC Instructor Instrument FE Total Time

Same rules apply as in single time

Also break down the number of approaches that you personally were at the controls in the last 6 and 12 months

ILS VOR LOC NDB ASR LOC(bc)

They will also ask you to break down your Jet, Turbo prop, and FE time like the Single and Multi time

Know your scores on your ATP and FE writtens

That's the only stuff I thought needed to be added. They were not intimidating. The questions on this page will be asked prepare an answer. I started out
doing a one-on-one interview with one of the pilots. He drilled me for a very long time on technical, situational, and HR questions. Don't change your
answer. Then he told me to be back in the Rosewood room at 1:30. Three got sent home before lunch, the rest of us waited and discussed our first
interview. All the questions varied, and the lengths did as well. I had the longest and most technical interview, but I also had the lowest hours. Some of
the others interviewed with Dresser and a Raoole at the same time. The five of us called back waited and then they called us in one at a time. I was the
second called in. It was then three on one. They didn't ask many questions, they just wanted clarification on some things from the first interview! . The
ones that didn't interview with Dresser the first time were called in one at a time, later I found out the people who had their initial interview w/Dresser (two
of them) they were brought in together and asked if they had any questions. They didn't hire anyone on the spot, they said 5-10 days. It's been two days,
so I don't know if I got the job yet. Yes or no it was a fair interview. I don't know if you are being watched or not but for the day and a half that I was there,
every person that worked at the hotel wished me good luck on my interview. The only person that knew was the bus driver. Even the wait staff knew. So
take it from that and just be on your best behavior start to finish. Advice, know the company, know your regs (I was asked about 91.175), and have some
answers for your standard HR questions prepared. And expect anything, I don't think they like doing the same thing every time. Good luck!

Pilot Interview Profile:

Well, this is both intended to help future applicants as well as set some of the rumors straight.

First of all, I received a call in later Febrary for a interview offer in early March. Of course, it is impostant that you are on your best behavior. I was able to
pick the date of my interview from a number of days they offered. Once that was set, I received a call about my travel arangements to IAH. I also was
told to make a reservation at the Holiday Inn North in Houston, TX. I cannot say enough about what a joy it was to fly on Continental to IAH. It was
wonderful.

Anyways, I arrived at the airport and called the hotel and they sent the van out to pick me up. For me at leats, talking tot eh van driver was of no help. I
personally sincerely doubt that they are taking notes on the applicants from the time they walk in the door. However, then again, I do not have a crystal
ball. I found another interviewee checking in as well. We both agreed to meet back at the restaurant for dinner. The food is alright (whicjh is good, as
there is nothing much around). We talked and quized each other about he upcoming days interview. Then we went back to our rooms and tried to get
some sleep. YEAH RIGHT!!!!!

Anyways, the long awaited day finally came. We all arrived a little early for the 8am advertised start time in the Rosewood Room. Right about 8am, the
assorted captains and John Dresser arrived. John proceeded to tell us about the company. In all seriousness, it was a very good briefing. Very
informative and fun to listen to. From that, we proceeded to the Wonderlic Test (see below). Upon finishing that, we where told to begin our paperwork
as per the intructions we had been given. So then we started. Now, not to seem like a broken record, but you really need to get ahold of the application
ahead of time (or at least the flight time grid). Afterspending what seemed like an eternity, I was asked to accompany Capt. Dresser to interview with
him. It was as advertised for the most part. However, my impression about Capt. Dresser is a very good one. Be natural, and do not try to go around
the question. Just answer the question to the best of your ability. It lasted about 20-25 minutes. Very informative and positive in nature. I was obviously
very nervous, but go in there with a positive attitude, and it will pay off. I asked a few questions, and then was told to come back at 1pm.

I came back early and waited for the next step. In the end, there was no second interview. They came in, and told us congratulations. Needless to say, I
was exstatic. So, is the quick and dirty. Again, a very postive experience. Even if I was not offered a position, I would say the same. I am not here to
lecture any of you, but consider it an honor that you where even offered an interview. As such, treat everyone with respect, and regardless of the
outcome, always have a positive attitude. It will most certainly get you further than if you have a chip on your shoulder. Best of luck!!!!!

First, let me give you my background at the time of the interview: 1000 TT, 280ME.

Date of interview: 3-10-2000

Confrontational?: YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did I get the job?: THEY GAVE ME A JET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EMB-145 BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Break down of other candidates: 10 were interviewed, 7 were asked to come back at 1:00pm, one was then intervied for a few minutes, John Dresser and the rest came
back to the room and gave the rest of us six jobs. Two low time guys (500 TT) were given BE 1900's, one guy (3000 TT, King Air captain) was given a Brazilia (maybe as
captain), three (including me) were given the EMB-145. We all had roughly 1000TT.

Every thing the other posts to this list about the interview are still accurate so I will not get into them. Some guys had all HR questions, some had all technical, some had
just psycho questions, I had EVERY thing tossed at me.

Joel is a nice guy (of course I'll say that, he gave me a job), but he is confrontational. Just ack cool and collected and you will do fine. However, do not change your
answer. By the way, I was brutally honest with him and the other interviewers. When asked if I was given offers by multiple airlines which one would I choose, I told them
the first one to give me a jet. They did so I'm there!

Final thought: Go there expecting nothing. If you get hired, great. If not, so what. Just remember, they probably alreadt have their minds made up before you get there, so
if you don't get hired it is not your fault. By the way, they gave me an RJ!

Took the COEX interview in late March. It was the same as the most recent posts. Very bizzare interview. No sim ride because, as John Dresser explained "COEX is too cheap." Makes you feel good...after all, why bother testing a pilot on how well he/she flies? That would make total sense, and be totally inappropriate COEX.

Nothing about COEX's hiring process seemed to make sense. One after one, the company turned down excellent pilots with excellent records. It seemed the company was looking for "suck-up type company men" who they can mold to fit their needs. It seems if you show them you have indepedent thought ability they will not hire you. Heck, this company wouldn't hire John Glenn. If you are out of the ordinary (even in a good way) or you seem to be a threat to their group of mediocre new hires you are as good as gone.

Carefully read the messages on this board. If you really want to work for COEX go to the interview, but if you are thinking of another company don't even bother. There interview process is so bizarre it does not reflect, in my opinion, any other regional airline interviews.

Wasn't impressed with the process at all, or the airline. Remember there are better regionals around: regionals that fly better aircraft (CRJ), pay better and have better benefits. So upset with the Interview process desided to take Northwest home instead of Continental. COEX's interview process is grossly unprofessional!

Pilot Interview Profile:

Timeline:

January 24, 2000 Sent in resume and coverletter
January 26, 2000 Call from HR to set up interview
February 4, 2000 Interview

I just recently interviewed with Continental Express. First thing, the process which I and the other 6 applicants went through
was not as "confrontational" as the others posted here.
I sent in my resume, cover letter, and a letter of recommendation from a friend/F.O. flying the RJ out of Newark. Don't know if
that had anything to do with getting a call two days later at 7:30 a.m.
The interview was set up for the following week. Flight to and from Houston is paid for. Stay at Holiday Inn North, about 20-25
minute drive to the hotel. Talk to the driver to get insight and tip him well. He/she may not know how to fly an airplane, but he
knows more about the interviewing process than you do!
The morning began at 8 am, in the Rosewood Conference room. My time zones were all messed up coming from California.
Only got 5 hours of sleep..... 7 applicantstotal. I was the youngest (22) and lowest time guy (1100TT and 220ME). High time
was 2800TT and 400ME. Middle range varied from 1400-2000TT and 250-300ME. No military pilots. Flight instructors, charter
pilots, cargo pilot, traffic watch.....

John Dresser and two line Captains (Clay Mitchell and Joel ?) walked in about 3 minutes late. John began lecturing about the
company and RJ orders/expansion. Lots of jets (135s and 145s) on orders! Phasing out turboprops. Hiring 55/month for at least
the next 4 four months. All jet fleet forecasted by 2003. Then he talked about some of the tedious paperwork to be filled out.
Clay spoke about the application itself and the flight time grid on the back..... AS SUGGESTED BY THE FORMER POSTS ON
THIS BOARD, IF YOU WANT TO LOOK GOOD, GO TO YOUR NEAREST CONTINENTAL AIRLINES COUNTER AND RETRIEVE
AN APPLICATION. FILL IT OUT BEFOREHAND. ESPECIALLY THE FLIGHT TIME GRID. IT WILL SAVE YOU LITERALLY
HOURS OF CALCULATIONS AND FRUSTRATION.
Other important documents to bring:
All logbooks
Certificates
Medical
High School and/or College Transcripts
4 references with numbers and/or addresses
any letter(s) of rec.
I.D.
Complete 10 year background check; they want to know where you've been EVERY single month for the past ten years,
addresses, numbers, names (employment and/or education) Ten years ago I was in 7th grade. Just a baby!!!
Basically bring as much as possible. It makes the paperwork easier and makes them happier.

We then began an SAT/IQ type test called the Wonderlic Personnel Test. 50 questions, 12 minutes. not expected to finish it.
As stated by Clay, If you finish it and get all 50 right, there's a bus out front waiting to take you to NASA where they need you
more than we do.... Don't sweat over it. Everyone finished about 30 or so. Math, number and word
pattern/recognition. More difficult as it progresses.

After that, began filling out app and background check papers. I was the second one called in to interview with Clay and
only Clay one on one. I was told by the other applicants that Mr. Dresser was alternating rooms to interview applicants. Guess I
lucked out! Interview was strictly HR, NO TECHNICAL. Take off you jacket and relax. Questions early on came from your
application to relax you and establish a good rapport. How did you get into flying? questions about my current job. He browsed
through my logbooks. Asked me about my relationship with the colleague who wrote me the letter of recommendation. Driving
violations will be asked about. If you've failed a checkride, you will talk about that. The he started asking the obvious:
How did you hear about us?
Why did you come to choose Continental Express Airlines?
If we were to only hire one person today, why you?
How do you deal with a difficult person?(Fired back at me for talking about my instructing background)
Where do you see yourself 3 years from now?
3 years from now would you rather be a B1900 Captain or a F.O. in the jet?
Where do you prefer to be based?
What is your availability?

It lasted about 15 minutes or so. That's all! Not confrontational at all, as posted here in the past. All of the other applicants
that day reported the same, with very little nit picking at college grades, failed checkride, ect..... But here's where our day varied
from the past interviews. I was told to come back (not "interview") at 1pm after lunch. I finished my paperwork by 11am. 5
applicants(including me) had gone and not finished the paperwork til about 11am. Us 5 were told to come back around 1pm. the
other 2 (the last ones to go) finished their paperwork early and were not told to come back ;told they would be notified in the mail
5-10 business days. So I was originally on the mindset that if called back for a second interview, 90% chance of being hired....
Nope. 5 of us go back at 1pm. the captains are 30 minutes late. Finally I'm called in by the other captain, still one on one.
he asks for my paperwork. I have a seat, He asks me what I want to fly, and my availability. And that's it..... That's it I
thought?!?!? No jepp charts, no 91.175, nothing.... Get a letter in 5-10 days. And the 4 others after me, the exact same thing.
No job offer. So I have concluded that we were only called back so they could get our applications. But why no technical?
Nothing...
So in summary, straight forward interview. Appears as if the process has changed. No second interview to harass you. No job
offer on the spot. Or we all just blew the first interview and got the early shuttle home.... doubt it. I guess they just want to get to
know you and if they like you, you're on board. Got the "thanks but no thanks" letter in the mail 15 days later.
