PSA Pilot Interview Profiles

Date Interviewed: January 2018
Summary of Qualifications: 1500TT COM MEL&SEL IR
Were you offered the job? Yes
Pilot Interview Profile:
Interview at CLT, started with a long introduction and Q&A. they said they were updating their written test so we did not have to take any tests. Then they pulled us one at a time for the HR and technical. Was asked to read a METAR then given an ETA and a TAF and asked to determine if we'll need an alternate or not. RVR questions, remember you have an autopilot and flight director. MDA, how to Calculate a VDP DME and time methods, how to calculate rate of descent, nothing tricky about 10 questions and that was it, they asked me to step outside for a minute then the pilot came out and asked me if I did any TSA checks before (I am a green card holder not a citizen yet), then asked me to step back into the room and congratulated me on the job and asked me to pick a class date.
Date Interviewed: November 2017
Summary of Qualifications: ATP written, over 1500, CFII
Were you offered the job? Yes
Pilot Interview Profile:
All were nice people, relaxed. Interview was your standard interview. Which are a waste of time. All these written test we take, reading plates or system questions are just a waste of time. None of it shows how good of a pilot you are.

I didn't take job, went corporate, pay as FO equaled Captain pay at the commuter level.

Good luck to you guys.

Summary of Qualifications: 1300 KC-135 200 GA with ATP
Were you offered the job? Yes
Pilot Interview Profile:
I was called and asked what date I would like to interview. They were flexible on dates. They flew me up to Charlotte the day before the interview. They provided detailed information on where to stay and the reporting process and what to bring.
We were directed upon arrival at the training center to wait in the cafeteria. The chief pilot and 2 check airman met with us and brought us upstairs. The chief pilot presented information about the company, and the pilots provided additional information with a question and answer session.
We were then issued a 25 question test:

1-9: questions regarding jeppesen approach LDA Rwy 19
Do you burn more fuel flying slower than L/D ratio and why?
1 enroute descent (3 to 1 rule)
Much of the previous gouge is still valid

After the test the Chief Pilot gave all of us a tour of the simulators. They have awesome sims; googlemaps imaging, new graphics, 3 hydraulically powered sims and 1 electric.

I waited about an hour before I was called to meet the chief pilot and check airman, and they asked me:

Why PSA?
What makes a good pilot?
What's the difference between authority and leadership?
Jepps departure minimums from Charlotte
RVR, acronyms, hotspots
Charlotte approach plate
VDP, MAP (timing), I forgot the 10% rule to calculate the VDP based off of timing
They gave me a scenario of my Captain is flying 20 knots faster than calculated on final. What do you do?
I answered: 1. correct him/her 2. consider length of runway 3. Call GA 4. If no reaction and unsafe, I would take the aircraft. They didn't like the answer of taking the aircraft. He explained I would make an unsafe situation more unsafe based on the pendulum effect of the engines. They asked me what other resources are available. I answered I would tell ATC we are 20 knots fast. They seemed to accept that answer.
HR questions

Offered the job

They seemed very enthusiastic and optimistic about the company. The interview was all business, but they were very professional. I thought I did terrible, so they are looking at the big picture. In other words, they are going to ask themselves if they would like to sit next to you on a 4 day trip.

I'm already in INDOC and the people have been AWESOME so far.

Pilot Interview Profile:
Everyone at PSA seemed really nice, and that they wanted you to be there. They are not expecting perfection, but are looking for potential.
The gouges on here prior to this one are spot on. Study the ATP/PSA test prep and you will be good. The questions in the written test are pretty basic, but make sure you study VDP,and PDP calculations. A quick look at the Everything Explained book will help as well. If you are an active pilot there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to nail the interview. Know the Jepp Charts... LDA DME RWY 19, practice briefing that plate very thoroughly, and also looking at the legend for Jepp Charts will help a great deal.
