Pilot Interview Profile:

If your a military flyer don't waste your time with these guys unless your right out of UPT. The HR people also had some pretty snide remarks about my military affiliation. As a reservist they don't seem like a company who will support you when you start mil dropping due to deployments. As far as the interview is concerned it started with a brief intro about the company then went into a sim. The written is still based on the atp as well. Overall seems like a great place for a young flyer (civilian or military) with minimum hours but the pay is pretty crappy, $19/hr to start. Good luck.

My biggest piece of advice is GO PRACTICE IN A FRASCA OR ATC-810!! I can't emphasize enough that you must be able to fly their sim well. My pool had 10 applicants and one was asked to leave right after the sim. He was used to glass and could not adjust. Another had turbine experience and all, but did not do well in the sim, also didn't get it. It is not a tough sim if you go get used to it before. I only had an hour in an 810 and I am so glad I did. Power settings really hold speeds well. Know when to put down flaps and gear to hold airspeeds. Know the airspeeds too. If you know this all beforehand you will do 90% better and be able to think about the approach which is a tough one.

I wish I had not forgotten to review some basic aerodynamics. I studied advanced stuff thinking that would impress and I was asked some basic concepts that stumped me for a minute until I got it together. It was my first interview ever too so my heart was racing.

Overall, this interview is a challenge that should not be taken lightly. My sim guy would not give a lot of feedback so I don't really know what he thought. He asked me a question after I passed the FAF and it rattled me. Luckily it was at the end and I feel I did well up to that point but who knows. Three of the remaining 7 in my group were offered jobs a couple of days after, I still haven't heard. Know how to draw a schematic of your systems, all of them. They want details it seems based on your experiences, what you fly. More that you understand conceptually how it works than memorizing every detail. They are nice but it's still no nonsense. You don't get a lot of second chances either. Try to get it right the first time. Know Jepp enr and app and all that good stuff. You never know what obscure things they can come up with. Prepare well, do your best and GOOD LUCK!

Straight forward. Do yourself a favor and show up for the interview. Only 5 out of 11 showed up on my date. Nothing new to add. Also If you are planning on having Skywest nonrev you to SLC make sure you have a back up. The flight are always full with plenty of standbys ahead of you.
To all the great Skywest guys, thanks.

50 questions from ATP, no figures at all! 20 Q mechanical aptitude test, easy stuff. Sim ride in a Frasca 142 or ATC 810, no tricks, no failures. Know your T/O and landing limitations, simple ILS down to the minimums. Don't forget to use the checklist when required!!!
CRM scenario (7 min), use common sense, fly the plane first!
Technical interview: be yourself, make sure that your logbook is up to date! Know the airplanes you fly in'n'out! You must know EVERYTHING about jepp charts (enroute and approach), WX, aerodynamics, part 91, 121 reg's.
If they invite you for an interview, they want to hire you. Study as much as you can and take a few hours of sim training before you get there! Good luck!

I was sent an email inviting me to a group interview. When I requested more information I was told to expect a full interview process. When I arrived it was more of a meet and greet where they took your resume and talked to you a little bit. A few people had interviews set up while they were there, most went home with promises of a phone call.
