I saw the ad for 747FO positions on April 30. Submitted my resume the same day. Recieved an e-mail from HR two days later offering me 3 days & times of my choice to choose from for the interview the following week. They would get back to me afterwards.
They got back to me the same day. I had my interview 5 days later at 7AM, May 6th via Microsoft teams. An HR person & an A330 captain.
The interview started with introductions, then the HR person left to join me later so it was just me with the captain. That put me at ease.
A lot of information was provided about the company. No technical, TMAT or WWYD questions. I was asked to talk about my career from the beginning which I did. I was asked whether I would be OK with the long duty hours, the long flight legs & the schedule. I said yes to all. I was asked if I had any questions. I said no. The captain said the results would be pushed up to the chief pilot for a final decision.
He thanked me & left. HR rejoined the meeting. I was told more about the company, that interviews were still taking place & that I would recieve an answer either way the following day.
I recieved the wekcome letter the following morning.
Only afterwards did I put two & two togeather: The email about who I was & when the meeting would take place was set to 7 individuals. I had been expecting many more faces, after all, on my screen. I believe they observed the interview from the beginning & had a say in its outcome too.
Good luck! |

Pilot Interview Profile: |
I showed up and the receptionist handed me a 25 question test, it was pretty easy...runway centerline lights, when they are red and when they are red/white, how many aircraft does National have, who is the owner, what is the company's name that owns National, 121 supplemental duty hours and flight time... then I met with payroll lady and a flight department manager (chief pilot was out of town). While waiting for the flight manager the payroll lady told me about the benefits and a little history of the company.
When the flight manager showed up they reviewed my resume and asked me the following questions.
Tell me about a time you had a disagreement with a coworker, how did you handle it.
Tell me about a time when you had an issue with fatigue management and what did you do?
Why did you leave your last company.
Are you ok with flying to Afghanistan.
Would you prefer the 757 or 747? (757 you have to live in Orlando the 747 is home based and only flies cargo)
Have you had any emergency situations.
I left and they said they have one more person to interview and they will let me know either way on Monday.... the following Tuesday afternoon came and I received an email saying that they are interviewing 2 more and they will get back to me Friday or Monday.... Monday of week 3 after the interview came and they said they have to interview a couple more people and they will get back to me by the end of the week. So I'm not holding my breath on the deal. |
