Pilot Interview Profile:

Just like all the other gouges. The interview started at the Crowne Plaza in PHX at 8:30. We were welcomed by Chris Bender and given the 50 question ATP written mostly on regs. I had some questions about aerodynamics mostly on swept wings. Everybody in my interview group scored over 80 percent the minium to continue with the interview. After the test they gave us an overview of the company ie: pay, bases, aircraft, benefits and bases. The interview was great just be relax and be yourself. Mm interviewer really wanted me to feel comfortable and relaxed during the interview and it really helped. Basically he asked me about METARS and TAFS and when you need an alternate. Also went over the ILS5 into Des Moines Iowa. I also got some technacal questions about one of the twins I have flown. After that talked to Chris Bender about why I wanted to become an airline pilot and what you think you think the life of an airline pilot is like. And what airplane and where I wanted to be based

I filled out my application through AirlineApps.com and received a call 2 days later for an interview. The interview was at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Phoenix, AZ at 8:30 am. Please make sure to wear a suit, preferably navy blue. First was a 50 question ATP written test. Most of the questions was from Regulations and weather and only a couple from Flight operations. No need to study any airplane specific questions(weight and balance or performance).Everyone passed the written. Passing is 80%. If you dont pass you won't be allowed to proceed to the next part of the interview process. After the written there will be a presentation on pay scale, bases, airplanes hiring for etc. Then is interview with 2 Mesa pilots, one captain and one first officer. Some of the questions were how did you get into flying? Whats FAF in ILS approach, brief an approach, whats the radius of MSA circle, read some symbols in a low altitude chart, if you are getting GPWS warning Terrain Terrain during your captain hand flying the approach and tells you to disregard the warning what would you do?Be prepared with the flagstaff ILS approach on how to get from the VOR to the localizer course after passing the VOR?(Ans feeder route)Total about 35 minutes of interview. You will have to go back a second time for another interview with Head of pilot recruiting Chris Bender who is a relly nice lady, and another person. Will ask you if you would be okay to be domiciled anywhere in the country. Everyone was done with the interview process by around 2:30. 10 out of the 13 got hired. They give the pee test right away and there are some more paperwork afterwards. Mesa Airlines is a great company with tremendous growth in the near future. We got classes for CRJ,ERJ or Dash 8. Don't know which one till class starting on Aug 8th'2005 in Phoenix. If you get Kansas city for clas then it means you got Beech 1900. Hope to work for Mesa in the near future. They are looking for good pilots real bad !!!

Same basic interview as everyone else. Everyone passed the written. Most interviews were one on one with a pilot interviewer. I had a very senior captain (i believe top 20) who is a IOE check airman. Very friendly. He has flown everything mesa has had but is in PHX. Mostly a technical interview. I had to describe the flaps system on a C-402. That question rolled into multi engine aerodynamics. Then we hit the enroute chart and approach plates. No suprises.

Date Interviewed: November 2004
Summary of Qualifications: CFI/CFII/MEI/ATP written 1000hrs, 210 multi

Pilot Interview Profile:

Interview started at 8:30 am with a 50 question ATP written. No performance or flight plan questions, just basic regs and weather. Know your ATP and 121 stuff. A lot of microburst questions. Those who fail don't go on (80% or better). There where about 15-20 people who all passed. After that you get a basic run through of the company (bases, pay, etc.)

After that you get an interview time where you go one on one with someone either from HR or a pilot. I had a dash 8 capt. He asked the standard how did I start flying, joked around about how being a CFI was a great job. Then he started with the questions.

Asked what planes I flew (I flew many so he asked which I flew the most, and what multi I was most current in). Asked about the engines, electrical systems, landing gear emergencies, turbo chargers. Why in a turbo charged plane I don't get the same thrust in Denver as I do in Phoenix.

Then he pulled out an approach plate for the Flagstaff ILS and asked me every detail about Jepps and the plate.

1. Asked for an approach brief.
2. Wanted to know about MSA,MEA,MAA and what they all gave me in terms of altitude, nav, etc.
3. Asked a lot about MAP, why the Flagstaff DH was 250 not 200.
4. What happens if I have the lighting in sight is it 100 feet lower or 100 feet about the touchdown.
5. Asked about timing the app.
6. When can you start the app 121 regs.
7. Holding, going miss, lost comms.
8. Tell him as much as I can about the airport from the plates.

Then he asked why they should hire me. I didn't get any of those drunk capt or going below MDA questions, I think they know everyone has the same responses. Most where in and out in about 20-30 minutes. If you don't know an answer say you don't know. Be honest, there where a few things where I said I didn't know but I still got the job. 5 weeks later I got the call.

The interview process was actually a more relaxed one. They called me about a week before my interview date and flew me from Orlando to Phoenix the day before the interview. The morning of the interview...I arrived early for the 7:30am interview and talked to the other applicants, they like to see you can mingle and talk with each other. Lori Clark starts the group out by explaining the whole Mesa company and where they are ect...she's a riot...and she's not there to make you feel uncomfortable....she's there to see what you've got and if they want you or not. After that it's the ATP written test, then they call your individual times of your personal interview times. Good luck from here, I personally got a Captain and an FO which they both grilled me on Jepp approaches, enroute, HR stuff like about a frantic captain going into a level 5 thunderstorm and about what would you do if you ..... Either way..Best of luck......
