Pacific Wings Pilot Interview Profiles

Date Interviewed: November 2010
Summary of Qualifications: turbine time, furloughed 121
Were you offered the job? No
Pilot Interview Profile:
Gouges are not very accurate on questions they ask you off the Gleim, there was very little weather and it was mostly IFR regs and approach/dept/arrival questions. There were also a couple of questions which did not apply to flying a Cessna Caravan but were in there anyways. Personal interview with easy no trick get to know you questions that you can answer with no prep. They had kind of a checklist of questions and they went down them one by one. That's it.

Interview is in ABQ, you go on your own dime and they don't really care much about the fact that you're paying to get there. Honestly this wasn't my best interview in general because I was rusty on everything, but I had all the qualifications and then some plus I had a good vibe walking out but was still turned down. There's a 8000 dollar training contract which you have to sign whether you quit or get fired, which is really unheard of in the industry. They neglected to mention this during the interview which I though was very odd. I didn't ask so they didn't mention, I guess....

Interview was held in ABQ. very relaxed. started off with a 45 question test right off gleim IFR. no flight plaining or vor orientation. HR questions. why choose airline industry, 5 year goals, strengths, why PW or NWA, least fav and most fav class in college, then on to tech portion, IFR alternates, your 12500 need to decsend to 4500 when would you start the descent. capt wants to descend below minimums what do you do? answ-say something if not call twr report missed. then on to info about the company and any last questions. no sim ride. overall wasnt to impressed.

Pilot Interview Profile:
Flew in on a buddy pass to HNL and nonrev on Pacific Wings to Maui. Rented a room on craiglist for 50 bucks. Next morning, drove the the commuter terminal, took the Gleim IFR (50 questions) written test on the bench. If you're studying for this test, just focus on rules and regs, operations, weather, taf, meter, and ignore flight planning or VOR orientation. I got 90 on the test and a missed a few questions. For example, what's the fuel requirement when filing IFR to an airport that does not have any instrument approach, you will need to fly to the vfr airport, fly to ifr airport, afterward fly for 45 minutes. Another question i missed is the microburst, which aircraft will experience greatest performance without changing in pitch or attitude. IF you do 70 or higher you will be ok. Next on the list is interview with the Customer Service manager, her name is Miley i believe. Very nice girl. Typical question such as tell me about your self, why chose aviation, why chose us, tell me about a time when you disagree with a coworker, tell me about a time when you disagree with a customer, least favorite class in college, most favorite class and why, if you can go back what would you change about yourself, what's your weakness, what is your strength. Next person you will see is the chief pilot (chuck hill). Very friendly guy. He jokes around a lot but just be professional with him and don't let lose. There will be question like, you're cruising at 12500 ft and need to descent to 4500, ground speed is 150 knots, descent rate is 500 fpm, how far should you start your descent. Very well experience captain decided to go below minimum, what do you do (do not try to wrestle the control)? After you landed, what do you do with the captain (report his ass)? Christmas eve and you realized a nav light is out, would you fly back home? Then the next part is the simulator ride. The simulator yoke and pedals are made by ASA. The software is Microsoft 2004. You will take off rwy 2 and climb to 3000, do a few steep turns, then there will be a vector to intercept the ILS. Fly the ILS down to minimum and that's about it. The CP will offer a drug test if you get the job. I did a lot of research about this place before going here. It seems like they have change things up a bit. A lot of opportunities here to build time.

Interview was to start at nine am I got there about 845 the assistant chief pilot got there shortly after I did he took me into a back office and we talked a few minutes and then he went through about a 50 question process and ask normal questions about why I chose the airline industry and why I chose them it was very pleasant and relaxed interview I thought it went very well about half way through the chief pilot came in and told me about the airline and what its history is and where it was heading then they gave me time to ask questions and after that they took me to another room where I took a 45 question quiz straight off of gliems software all in all I thought it went good I was very impressed with the attitude of the airline and the employees I did meet.

Ps. I interviewed with New Mexico airline which is the sister to pacific wings.

Asked some questions about cruise clearance Does it clear you to make an approach? (yes) Jokied around with a desktop yoke on the latest new Microsoft Sim software(c208). Took 3 little computer exams based on random amounts of questions from Gleims data bank. Passed them all. Was quetioned verbally abut 135 regs, and briefed on some Horse Play done by prior pilots. Interviwed with 3 different people. Vibe about the Place is VERY NEGATIVE: Example, at the gate and phone rings constantly and nobody answers it, even being they were over staffed. Their signage had no phone numbers .. (just common sense to have a phone number so drive bys can call in) Rumor is locals dislike PW so much some employees had their car windows bashed out. PW isn't even worthy of using the name "Pacific". They're puny, and will use you for every little bit of patience, resources, and skill you have. For the VERY low pay. (Remember Maui is not cheap, min. wage is about 10 an hour (check out Labor Ready on Maui). I spent 3 months there after my interview. They Like to make you wait a week before they make a decision about you. That way you are Far away and won't bother them. = this is what got me so jostled up , they knew i was not leaving till i got an answer= . Believe me if you like hawaii, Go to Maui and spend some time living it up and then come back to the main land and get a good fair square job. PW and its Managment are Loosers with a captial L.
