Pilot Interview Profile:

I was just hired by Air Wisconsin. The info from previous people is right on. I highly suggest going through the Interview Prep thing the day before your interview. A previous post has the phone number. I would have really screwed up the sim if it was not for the prep!!!! I interview at DEN. The interview consists of a 10 question written on, how far should you be away from a thunderstorm? 20 miles. What is the max speed you can go within 4 miles of class D airspace? 200 knots. What is the holding leg length at 16,000 ft? 1 1/2 min. All of the questions were easy. The answers on the previous post were correct. BDCCCBBBDB The interview was 2 on one. I was in there with the Chief Pilot and a gal from HR. It was tag team. She asked a question and then he asked a question and then she asked a question and so on. All questions were about who was your best boss and why. Who was you worst boss and why? What would your previous employers say about you? And so on. The sim was easy. It is a Frasca 141. The guy gave me all of the power setting while I was flying it so you do not have to remember anything. Watch the right rudder on Take Off!!!! You almost have to stand on it! They have the sim set up to be like a single engine aircraft. You do NOT have to worry about the mixture and throttle so just watch your power and fly the thing. I departed and flew runway heading. He gave me some radar vectors. Put me on the ILS and I flew it down to minimums and then went missed. Did a right turn to go direct to the LOM to hold and told him that it would be a parrallel entry and he said that I was done. The ILS was for Appleton WI and I think it was Runway 29 or something like that. The sim lasted about 45 min. The interview lasted 25 min and the written 3 min. We started the interview process at 9:00 am and we were done at noon. I got a letter in the mail 3 weeks later. Air Wisconsin sounds like a GREAT company and I look forward to working there!

I am a new hire at Air Wisconsin so here is the interview info.

They are interviewing either in Denver or Appleton. You obviously have to get yourself to one of those sites. The interview lasts about 2 hours and is broken down as follows:

About an hour with a pilot and an HR perspective of the airline. A 10 question test on general IFR knowledge A review of your logbooks by the pilot interviewer A one on one interview with an HR representative A 2 or 1 on 1 interview with pilots A sim ride in a Frasca 142

Key points: Make sure your logbook is perfect. They spend alot of time reviewing it.

HR interview is casual. Just be yourself and you'll do fine. Be ready to answer "what if" questions and experience you have had in leadership roles. They want captain material.

The pilot interview asks some technical questions and you don't know what so you have to be totally prepared. We all got different technical questions. Alot of "what if" questions as well. Make sure you know your memory items from the aircraft you are currently flying. They made me recite an engine failure/fire after V1 memory item. Both interviews last about 20 minutes. Don't worry if it's shorter or longer. It didn't seem to matter with the group I interviewed with. There were four of us (the typical interview number) and two of us got hired.

The written exam is pretty easy. Make sure you know what constitutes a stablized approach on a precision approach.

The sim ride is very basic. They will vector you to an ILS and have you enter a hold. They will fail something (usually your AI) and make sure you recognize it and that is about it.

As far as being notified that they want you, if they don't want you, you will get a letter within about 3 days. If they want you, you can hear anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks. I think its the timing on when the classes are scheduled.

You will go to Appleton for indoc for 2 weeks and then to systems. The BAe146 is in Appleton, the DO328 is in Appleton and the CRJ guys get shipped off to Montreal for 4 weeks for ground/sim. So, I had a total of 4 weeks in Appleton since I was on the DO328. Not a bad place. They put you in a nice hotel with continental breakfast each day.

Air Wisconsin is a great airline and eveyone is great. They are hiring into all 3 a/cs right now. In my class of 25 there were 2 CRJs, 8 BAe146 and the rest Donier 328. In the class behind me, everyone was put into the Donier. Another class is supposedly scheduled in April. The March class was postponed to let the flight/sim training catch up. Class rank is based on age.

Well that's it. Hope that helps!

Call Airline Career Resouces (1-888-377-6544) and do your practice sim ride with them. This is the same sim you will be tested in. Their instructor took me through Atlanta take offs, turns, etc. - said he was not allowed to use the same profile. However, it was great practice and I have a job offer. The Air Wisconsin evaluators were please to hear I had taken the time to practice.

I interviewed about a week ago in DEN, have still not heard back. They said it could take up to 3 weeks but I've heard it's usually quicker. Anyway, overview of the process:

10 question written test, very easy. Know holding leg length above 14k, wind shear, how far to avoid t-storms, etc. Nothing too tough.

2 interviews, one with management and line pilot standard questions about background, nothing surprising. Also asked about V1 and how to do a V1 cut in your airplane as well as IFR fuel requirements. HR interview many of the same q's, just get to know ya stuff.

Sim ride is in a Frasca 141 in DEN. Consists of takeoff, climbing turns, steep turns. Than an ILS to a missed including a holding entry. They will fail the ADI at some point, mine wason the missed. Interview is very laid back and Air Wis seems to be an excellent company. I'm hoping to hear something soon!

I interviewed with Air Wisconsin on January 12th in Denver. They are very friendly and the interview is straight forward. There is a 10 question multiple choice written about general FAR's etc. The answers are, from 1 to 10: B, A, C,C,B,B,A, A, D, B. Next you fly a Frasca 141. You takeoff, do two steep turns, and an ILS followed by a missed approach. After the missed approach they vector you back to the ILS and tell you to proceed directly to the Locator Outer Marker and hold. The entry is parallel. You do not actually enter the hold. As soon as you tell him the entry you get another vector to the ILS. During the vector they fail the attitude indicator.

After the sim you meet with the chief pilot and D/O. Again, they are really nice people here. They ask the usual questions. Here's a few I remember being asked: 1) What is V1? 2) Tell me the V1 cut procedure for your airplane. 3) Tell me about your flying career to this point. 4) Tell me about a company policy you disagree with.

Finally you meet with two women from HR. 1) Tell us about yourself 2) What can you tell us about yourself that we can't read on your application 3) Have you ever looked up to anyone?

Sorry I don't remember more of the questions. Each interview takes about 10 minutes. The questions are very simple and they really make you feel comfortable. The whole process is very pleasant.
