Pilot Interview Profile:
Did the job fair in ohio. Started at 10, went over a presentation of the company, talked about who they own and what they fly, etc. Quick Q&A then were sent into the hall so we could be interviewed individually.

Went in, had to read a metar/taf, alternate rule, finger fly the approach into Spokane, that was it! Nothing to it. Was told i'd either get a call from the chief pilot next week which would mean i'm hired or i would get an email saying i wasn't.

NO SIM RIDE and there was only a 15 question ATP test, the last 4 or 5 consisting of questions bout your last flown aircraft. That may be a job fair only thing

At 0800, we were all waiting at a conference room at the 3rd floor in the Radisson Airport Hotel. We all had to fill out paperworks and a questionaire. Then, we had to gather up all our paperworks, original & copied required documentation, and place them on a table where the interviewers would check if all our documents were in order. Make sure all your documents and paperworks are current, neat, and in order. Bring everything you have even though it is not listed in the email they've sent you for the interview. It won't hurt to have extras. Then, we took the 50-questions ATP Gleim test. I hear they change the questions all the time. So the previous gouge was off. Luckily, I've studied most of the ATP Gleim. Out of 13 of us, 5 were dismissed because I believe they didn't pass their written.

After taking the test, we all took a break. Then, all of us remaining applicants were called in to observe the company presentation. Then, we all took another break while they prepare the conference room for multiple interviews.

They'd call in about 4-5 people at a time in that one conference room and had 1-1 interviews. HR questions could be any of the ones listed in the previous gouge such as Jepp plates, low/high enroute charts, scenario questions (drunk captain, captain distracted and taxis of the taxiway, captain smokes in cockpit, captain brings daughter inside cockpit during flight), either electrical/hydraulic systems of your previous aircraft you've flown, 3 best/worst qualities, why Mesa? Do you have any questions for me? Just try to relax and not be as nervous as I was.

Study, be yourself, show them you want the job, and you'll get the job. Mesa personnel I've met and encountered during this process were all cool, laidback, and chill while maintaining a professional attitude. Expect the interview process to be 3-4 hours from start to end.

So, 2 days later the chief pilot called me and offered me the job. Surprisingly, I've gotten to choose the equipment I wanted to fly and was delighted to get the domicile I wanted. He was so cool and accommodated me to get what I want and at the same time what Mesa can offer. I start groundschool in a couple of weeks. Good luck!

We first filled out a paper about how we found out about the job, and the front page of an interview checklist for the interviewer, gave them our documents, then took the 50 question ATP test. The test covered the basics for 121 regs, aerodynamics, ATC clearances, RVR, de-icing, but no performance or weight and balance. We where then kicked out into the hall and called in about 6 at a time to interview individually. The interview covered the basic "Are you a criminal?", "Ever been busted by the FAA?" questions, "What would you do if the captain showed up drunk?", "Tell me about a time you where challenged, set a goal and reached it, motivated another, ect.", "What makes a good Capitan?", "Why do you want to work for Mesa?". Breifed a jepp approach plate and answered questions about a low-altitude jepp chart. After that I was thanked and sent home.

We showed up at 0800. At about 0815 they gave us the 50 question ATP test. No tricks, know flight and blow horn attendant requirements. Test isn't timed, but most everyone was done in 30-45 mins. The other gouges are right on. A lot of regs are covered and one or two on swept wing aerodynamics and vortex generators.

After the test, they gave a presentation about the company. They covered topics like pay, schedule, location of bases, what airplanes fly under which colors, stuff like that.

The presentation lasted an hour tops. Then they kicked us out in the hall, and called us in one by one. This was the worst part for me, simply because I was one of the last to go (and I don't like to wait). The face to face is a one on one interview. I interviewed with an FO who just aske me the basic HR questions: Tell me about the most stressful time while flying, 3 worst qualities, and the classic Captain goes to bathroom and returns to cockpit with young daughter, what do you do.

After that, she took out a high-altitude enroute chart. I had never seen one, but managed to get through it pretty easily. Then she had me read a METAR and a TAF, then asked based on the weather in the reports, do I need an alternate (1-2-3 rule). Then she had me brief an approach. I didn't know what she wanted to hear, so I read off everything that was on the approach plate. She suggested a shorter brief of only the pertinent info. Oh well. Then she had me finger fly the approach.

After that, she asked if I had any questions and we chatted for a couple of minutes. All in all, the face to face lasted about 20-30 minutes and I was off to the airport by 1300. Pretty straight forward, no tricks. Good luck and I hope this helps

The interview was very laid back. We arrived at the Radisson about 7:45. All the interviewers began to show up around 8:05. We were given a brief overview of how the interview was going to be. We were constantly assured that they were not there to pull any tricky stuff, but instead, get to know us. This was followed by a 50 question ATP written test. No tricks there either. It was all weather, and regulations. After the written test, we were given a brief on the company's history. Afterwards we were brought in for the one on one interview. I had two HR questions. The famous "drunk captain", and was also asked what I would do if my captain missed a maintenance log. Then was asked to read a TAF and whether or not I would need an alternate. This was followed by an approach brief and some approach chart questions. There were a few questions on a low altitude chart, and that was it.
