Mesa Airlines Pilot Interview Profiles

Date Interviewed: November 2007
Summary of Qualifications: 250 TT, COMM AMEL
Were you offered the job? Yes
Pilot Interview Profile:
The starting time was 8:30am at the Radisson Hotel, try to call atleast 2 weeks in advance for a reservation because they fill up fast, most arrived at 7:45AM and the last person showed up at 8:10am, don't be the last one there!!

Capt. Warren Phillips gave a brief overview of the company, make mental notes, you may be asked what you know about the company. Then we were given a 50 question ATP, all from Part 121, buy the Gleim and study it, you'll be fine. We were then told to stand outside and they called us in one by one for one on one interviews.

Basic HR question (why Mesa, 3 worse qualities, whats a good FO, Captain goes into mud/shows up drunk what would you do, etc.) Then Jepp charts, brief an approach, VDP by DME, and Distance problem (3-1 rule), Metar, TAF, ALternate (1-2-3 rule). Any questions?? And that was it!!

Be confident in your answers, don't let them sway you or back you into a corner. Have fun and relax, they know your nervous so its more like a conversation then an interview!! Remember they want to hire you, don't give them, a reason not too.

Most were called after the weekend and offered the ERJ.

GOOD LUCK!!

Interview for PACE program started around 8:20 in the morning in San Juan College New Mexico. I was the only one who can show up that day. It started with a psycological test. Then 30 instrument questions. All of them come from the FAA instrument written exam book.
Around 10:30, The staff of aviation department gave me the overview of Mesa airlines. Pay scales, upgrade time(3yrs), cost of the program and so on.
11:30 its the one on one interview. Very relax, get to know you questions.
12:30 Sim Check. The chielf pilot of the program gave me some headings to fly then vetor me up to the ILS Farmington(no PT), all the way fly to the ground in a Fasca 242. No surprise, no instrument failure.
Something I want to complaint is that they won't let you know how you did. Over all I think I did good, but the questions of the psyc was drive me crazy, I think it can not really proof my ability.

Date Interviewed: August 2007
Summary of Qualifications: COMM AMEL/ASEL IA, 630hrs, 240MEL, Part 91.

We interviewed at the Radisson Airport Inn at approximately 0830. We were briefed on who the interviewing staff was and a brief history of the company, i.e.: started flying the BE-1900 then moved to the Dash 8, to the CRJ, etc... After a brief history, we were then told what our pay as first officers was going to be.

Soon after, we were given a test which consisted of 50 questions from the ATP written test. Hint: All questions were derived from the Gleim ATP Written Test Prep book. Read it, know it!! You have to pass with an 80% or better to be interviewed, or else they will tell you that you didn't make the interview and you must return home.

Every person who passed the test and was excepted for an interview was interviewed one at a time and was, from what I saw, based on when their flight left for home. The guys that lived in or around the Phoenix area were interviewed last. Sorry guys!

Once called for the interview, one of either three of four interviewing staff called you upstairs. The interview consisted of reviewing your results on the 50 question test and making sure that what you knew was conmensurate with your experience. After reviewing the test, you were asked a series of HR questions, i.e.: What are your three best character traits?, If a Captain you were flying with suddenly decides to smoke a cigarette in the flight deck, what do you do?, etc...

After the HR questions, you are asked about your knowledge in regards to Jeppesen charts and approach plates and your ability to brief them. In my case, I was the instructor teaching my "student" how to brief the approach and what different symbols meant on the plates and charts.

I kid you not, that was just about it for the day. We were all sent off on our merry ways and off to home.

The day after the interview, most of us were called for the position and to select a class date. Choose wisely!! Don't rush into it!

That's it and GOOD LUCK!!!

Arrived early for 0830 interview five others already there. Three more showed up before 0830. Warren Phillips started off with PRIA, then started with airline presentation. Interviews started roughly about 0930. Interviewed with Misty Walker at the time an FO CRJ. Asked what I have done to go above and beyond to help out coworker? Was asked if enroute chart was high or low altitude, pointed out VORTAC asked what it was. Where does the high alitude chart start. What does MAA stand for. Asked to brief two appraoch plates. What is MSA. Where does class A start. Pointed out waypoint (flyover) asked what it was. What the numbers between VORTAC's were. Read a METAR, and TAF, and given a scenario and asked if I would need an alternate. Given scenario about captain going to bathroom and then returning with 7 year old daughter to show her flight deck, What would you do? Asked if I had any questions for her. Conversed for many minutes, then asked if offered ground school what date I would pick? Was finished by 1100. Later found out everyone was hired.
