Pilot Interview Profile: |
As previously briefed... Started with a video of RAH and their operations. Next was the Wonderlic test followed by ATP multiple choice test questions. Don't sweat the wonderlic, its pretty easy. If you really want to, there is an app for the iPhone that you can practice with.
Then they went through my logbooks and I went into the interview. It was two company pilots and an HR guy. All good guys and relaxed. No one is trying to pressure you or trip you up. The questions that I can remember are:
Tech -Brief an approach (ILS 4R @ JFK) -what's the highest obstacle on the chart -how much clearance is provided by the MSA -read METAR/TAF, do we need an alternate -if you're on the "___" radial tracking to the VOR, what is your heading -when is a braking advisory issued, different levels of breaking action
TMAAT -you had to follow a rule/procedure that you didn't agree with -you had a stressful time or an emergency in flight -you flew with a difficult pilot
Some general questions -What do you think will be the most challenging part of moving over to 121 flying (I had no previous 121 exp) -What's the difference between a good Capt and a good FO -Have you ever failed a check ride -Why did you leave your previous companies -What was the best thing you learned from another pilot
No questions on my current AC or Reg's
They seem to be hiring pretty aggressively, mostly due to the new Q400 program. I was offered a class 3 hours after I left the interview. The one guy I interviewed with, a young guy with around 1500 hrs, was also offered a class. If you can take the absurdly low pay, it might be a good time to get in.
Good luck |

Pilot Interview Profile: |
Starts at 0830. 30 minute company overview. Two written tests: ATP written 20 questions multiple choice in 10 minutes, and 50 question Wonderlic test in 10 minutes. Wonderlic is like an easy pilot SAT - don't study for or sweat it. After written tests, RA pilots will review logbooks and you will fill out PRIA paperwork. Then personal interviews happen one applicant at a time. Panel was two pilots and one HR person. Extremely simple and straightforward interview. Several situational questions (tell us a time you disagreed with policy, other pilot...tell us a time you had a stressful problem in-flight). Some philosophy questions (what's the difference b/w a good captain and a good F/O). Technical questions were very easy: read a METAR, TAF, do you need an alternate, brief this approach (the "gotcha" was missing approach lights on plate, where do you look it up...so brief it from STAR all the way to touchdown). Very nice panel, no significant curve balls. I interviewed on a Tuesday and they called me the following Monday with an offer. Good luck! |
