Pilot Interview Profile:
Everything from the previous couple months of interview tips was very helpful. The structure is exactly as people said and the written parts are exactly as described. A few details: I was the only person in my group of 12 that drove to Indianapolis instead of flying in space available. Because everyone else had to catch their departure flight, I had to wait until last to do both the HR and the SIM. It made the interview seem a lot longer. Also, for you young guys reading this: do not be intimidated if you are the youngest guy in the room by far. I was clearly the most junior, judging by age and stacks of logbooks that the other guys had, along with their chatter about the other jobs/airlines they had flown for. In the HR, don't be afraid to bring up that you are aware of the issues of low morale due to lack of contract. Tell them that you are aware of those things and that you are prepared and have your expectations set accordingly. They do not want to hire pilots that have some "pie in the sky" expectations and are totally clueless of the way things are. When it came to the SIM, I was asked my holding entry and I answered Parallel. The exact radials were not given, just a vague idea of where I was and approximate area (southwest) where we would hold. The instructor asked why I thought Parallel and I explained that we were right on the line between a direct and parallel entry. He advised that he thought a direct entry was probably easiest to avoid the looping around that a Parallel requires. I told him that it made sense to me and we moved on to the next subject. I think that even though we differed in opinion at first, I showed that I had situational awareness and was well aware of the holding entries and which direction to use which entry. We were close to where either one could be used and he did not deny that. I do not believe that it was staged that way and I do not believe it was his intention to confuse me or trick me in any way. I left the interview wondering if I had blown it on the hold entry and wouldn't get the job because of that...definitely an uneasy feeling but I was confident that I had made my point. Got the call the next afternoon with the job offer. Also, I answered 36 on the wonderlic test...everyone says it doesn't matter and isn't used, but I'm sure they wouldn't waste their valuable time with the test if they didn't use it for something.

Arrived IND at 6pm. I was led to believe the Headquarters was at the Airport. I thought the hotel van would pick you up. Turns out the Hotel and Office is 23 miles from IND. After a bunch of phone calls I found the Limo and got to Embassy Suites around 9pm. Next morning was told to catch the shuttle at 745 and be in the lobby. Another candidate and I showed up early in the lobby but the van had already left. The Hotel employees were really confused. An employee of the hotel took us over in their private car.We were 15 mins late getting to Republic. Wasn't our fault at all. When we arrived it didn't really seem to matter to Republic. They were very nice about it. Just don't trust what the hotel says. If it happens to you I would just walk. The building is right across the street. If I had known I would have walked. Google the location to make sure just in case. They brought us into a classroom and did the 1/2 hr presentation. They act very laid back. They took our logbooks and reviewed them. Gave it back to me after 10 mins or so.The written test was easy if you study the ATP written guide. They give you 10 mins and I finished in 3.I got one wrong as I looked them up when I got home. Def study for that test. The wonderlic is easy if your not super tired. I was exhausted from the travel and the stress of but still did pretty well. I finished 28 questions. I was first for the sim because I had an early flight out. 305 pm. I totally messed up on answering how to enter the hold. i was asked 4 times before i figured it out. Brainfart. The sim ride was very easy and straight forward. Just follow the FD. They have you adjust the power just so they can see if you can scan and do at least two things at once. The HR interview was straight forward. The typical questions. The pilot in there also asked me some technical question which were all pretty easy because I had just gone through the whole ATP study guide. I really thought I was going to get hired. I was totally shocked when they sent the Dear John email.Honestly it is their loss because I was ready to commit for the next 7 years. Throughout the process they certainly made it feel as though they were going to hire me. Good luck to everyone.

Pilot Interview Profile:
Got flown in the night before stayed at the embassy suits. Republic provides transportation to and from the airport and provides transportation to the interview site which is a mile from the hotel.
There was about 14 of us interviewing a mix of instructors, and airline guys. The interview is a very straight forward, it starts with a presentation about the company by one of the HR guys. This is the time to ask questions about the company if you have any. During this presentation he also mentioned that the company is growing and that they will be hiring a lot of pilots in the next few month.
After the presentation we took a 20 question multiple choice written test, ATP written questions mostly aerodynamics, they give you 10 minutes to complete which is more than enough time. After that it's the wonderlick test I think it's also ten minutes to do as many questions as u can I answered 29 everybody else did about the same. After that we got broken down into groups, depending on what time your flight was leaving you either went to the sim or to the HR/tech portion. For sim section they take you down four at a time. Sim is a CRJ 200. SIM was very easy if you have any experience following the FD should be no problem the pilot on the right does everything for you except for throttle comtrol he gives headings and altitudes and speed and even suggested throttle settings. All you do is takeoff a cople of turns a descend and fly the ILS following the FD and land that's it. For the hold all you have to is tell them how you would enter it. HR portion is conducted while one of the captains is reviewing your logbooks and certificates. I was asked standard HR stuff why do you want to work for republic, what makes somebody a good FO, ever have a difficult student and how you handled it , and ever have an emergency in an aircraft. After that it was the technical portion, read a Metar read a TAF based on this time of arrival do we need an alternate. Was asked holding speeds. Than given an ILS into JFK plate, asked to brief it. Based on that was also asked if the glide slope is out what are the LOC min. If the weather goes b.low minimums before the FAF cn we still attempt the app. I said under part 91 we can, and under 121 no.
And that was it. Vey straight forward interview. Got offerc the job 48 hours later.

Pilot Interview Profile:
Fly out positive space, stay at Embassy Suites on your own dime. Although you do get a republic rate ($72 after taxes).

Upon arrival in IND you are provided ground transport from Carey limo service. It's a great opportunity to get to know the others that are interviewing.
PRIA documents are emailed prior to departing for interview along with an interview package.
One candidate in my group of about 15 did not receive his interview packet and all the PRIA docs in an email before he departed for the interview. He seemed to have his act together with regards to making sure he had copies of everything (certs. Medical, Radio Ops license, DL, Passport). He also was proactive on downloading the missing PRIA forms that he needed. I give him props on heads up thinking.
Interview morning you are to take the Embassy van over to RAH HQ. Unfortunately, the van was inop so the hotel was calling taxis for everyone. You can predict what a CF that turned out to be!
The RAH HQ is almost a mile across a major street. If you feel like it, walk.
Arrive at HQ go to third floor and check in with reception. All smiles and very friendly. They offer to store your bags for you in the closet. The office space is well appointed with a professional atmosphere.
An HR rep greets you next and leads you back to a classroom setting where a 20-30 min presentation about RAH is given. It's very informative and made me feel like this is a company I would enjoy being employed by. The presenter was humorous during the PP presentation and fields all Q's
Next up are the ATP written and the Wonder-bred (Wonderlic) tests.
The ATP type test is 20 question in 10 minutes. Standard stuff, no performance questions and not a lot of Regs. Some aerodynamics. Pretty much a general test from the ATP study guide aside from the aforementioned items. I believe strongly that we all received the same test.
The Wonderlic is what it is. There were spouting amongst the candidates that you were required to answer at least 20 questions to even be graded. I don't know if that is true. Really, I don't care. It's a timed test, twelve minutes. I answered 33 questions. Probably 2/3 I felt we're correct. Watch out for the square with colors!
Our group was then corralled into the break room. Coffee, di-hydrogenmonoxide, snacks, and the sweet smell of people's home cooked lunch wafted lazily as you turn in your PRIA papers, pilots check your log books, and are either selected for the sim or HR segment of the interview process.
Relax and find some one to hang out with as you will be there a while.
After an hour I was called for HR and the sim at the same time. HR goes by your departure flight time home so if you have a late departure out of IND you will do the sim probably last.
I was a middle of the pack departure, so they sent me to the sim next.
SIM ride is a glass cockpit you get in, adjust seat, are given instructions (of which I remembered about 1/2 of what he said) off you go!
There are two RAH pilots in the SIM "assisting" you. Both were really great. Your FO will give you power setting and headings while the other pilot behind you evaluates. (Really they both are) The atmosphere is light and I probably had a smirk on the entire time as light hearted humor prevailed. Just chill and fly the sim.
You set TO power, roll down the runway, V speeds are called out, rotate, up you go. I didn't call gear up quick enough but my "FO" caught that for me and did his job well! Right turn about 290 degrees left turn about 135 degrees intercept a radial and track, airspeed decrees, constant AS decent, vectors ILS, intercept and fly to minimums, land. FO puts flaps and gear out for you and advises on pitch changes from drag devices before he initiates them. Very helpful. I've read other gouges whining about the SIM. IT'S A SIMULATOR! If you have ever controlled one you know what it about. My best advice is to follow the flight director and TRIM I cannot stress it enough.
After the SIM I was relocated back up to the third floor holding tank.
Pretty quickly, HR called me in. In this delicious portion of the interview you turn in copies of Certs. and every thing else they requested in the interview package. Now it's a two on one HR/Tech Q&A.
Started with HR. The standard stuff described in other recent gouges. Why RAH, why me, a couple TMAAT, any violations we should know about DL and FAA.
Next was technical. An ILS into JFK. How are you able to define this fix? What's the min. Vis. For a CAT C? What changed from last issuance? It was a Jepp chart.
Both people interviewing me were nice. Everyone was nice. You gotta give these people credit. Interviewing 15 pilots in 2/3 of a day is not easy I am sure. They definitely keep it professional which reflects great upon the company.
After all three segments are done you are cleared to evacuate. RAH sets up Carey limos to pick you up in spaced out interval dependent on your departure time. Ride like a rock star to IND feeling good about what you just accomplished and the RAH saw enough in you to meet YOU in person.
A shout out to Jon and Manny. Good luck guys!

Pilot Interview Profile:
Arrived at 8:30 A.M. Started with presentation of company which owns Chataqua, Frontier, Shuttle America and Republic. After that a 20 question aviation test. Study the Gleim book or other ATP prep book. Everyone in group of 13 passed. Took the wonderlick test next. It does not really count, so do not worry about it. After this, they start the sim session. The sim session is about 20 minutes long. They set up the sim (Canadair 200 Regional Jet), you are on the runway and everything is set up for you. The pilot in the left seat just tells you how far to push up the power and off you go. He pulls up the gear and flaps for you and sets up everything for you, you just fly. You just follow the command bars (the V type), climb out at 200 kts to 5000, then level off and fly at 200 kts (you pull the power back). After that, it is some turns and then a descent at 200 kts. You will slow to 180 kts,m then get vectors for an ILS 5L at Indianapolis. You fly it down to minimums, then look up and land. The instructor helps you with the judgement, but does not land the airplane for you, as the landing is not judged. The HR/pilot section was very straightforward. Nothing was asked about systems of the aircraft you are flying. Some technical info such as briefing an approach plate (be familiar with Jep and Gov't charts), and ask a professional pilot on how to brief it. Know how to read a METAR and TAF and determine if you need an alternate (123 rule). They asked some questions about centerline lights when they start to change colors from white. They asked me about the ILS 4R at JFK, and how I would enter the hold. The sim instructor asked me how I would enter the hold at Indianapolis, but they don't make you fly it. They ask the standard why would you be a good First Officer, why Republic? I was the last one to be interviewed and the last one to fly the sim. The sim guy is fine, no problems, and the pilots are fine. HR are good. Make sure you have copies of all your documents and bring the originals. Make sure you have an FCC restricted radio telephone operators permit also, and a resume. They asked me if I had one and I didn't. It is not required, but nice if you have it. The Embassy Suites has a rate of $65/ night plus tax. Good deal, and they take you to Republic headquarters about 1 mile away. The aviation test had questions such as what should all crew members have, and that is a operating flashlight, when can ice become a factor, and that is less than 5 degrees Celcius. Just be perpared, and either fly a sim or get into an airplane and shoot an ILS if you haven't done so in a while with command bars. They will paperwork in advance to fill out. Pretty easy to do, and complete before you go in. They admin people at Republic are very helpful. This was my 1st interview in 32 years, and it went pretty good. It is not impossible, but focus while you are at the interview and if you have done any multi engine or jet flying, you should be be fine. Sim is a bit sensitive, as it flies like a sim. don't over control it. Good Luck. I have 8 months until I retire, and even though they offered me the job, I have to interview again in 6-7 months as your paperwork is only good for 6 months. I found out 1 day after the interview that I got the job.
